Roles and Responsibilities in a PSP Family

Looking after children, aging parents, and a household can be challenging for any family. For PSP families, these responsibilities can be even harder to manage because of shift work, overtime, canceled leave, and the risks that come with public safety work.

When many demands happen at the same time, it can feel overwhelming. For example, working extra hours while caring for a sick family member or dealing with unexpected changes at home can create stress, conflict, and exhaustion. This is called  role overload .

Over time, this build-up of responsibilities can affect both your physical and mental wellbeing.

The good news is that many PSP families find ways to adapt and cope. Understanding these challenges is the first step toward finding strategies and supports that can help.

The resources below offer practical information and strategies for managing common challenges.
